DESCRIPTION:Join Gloria at ABAM for a 2-day pottery workshop to make a wall pocket hanging planter on Monday\, 4/29 & Wednesday\, 5/15!\n\n\nStudents will develop a basic foundation in ceramic arts geared towards beginner through advanced skill level. Students can anticipate this course to be an introduction to the medium and guidance to create a finished product. \nThis workshop occurs on two days\, two weeks apart: \n\nMonday\, 4/29 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and\nWednesday\, 5/15 from 2:00pm-4:00pm\n\nDay 1 of this course will cover a basic introduction to slab building to construct a slab hand built wall pocket hanging planter pottery piece \, using a mid-fire clay body (firing to cone 5-6). Students will be able add Decorative techniques using stamps\, cookie cutters\, and texture lace will be provided to use in the design. Students may also bring their own decorative tools\, including but not limited to cookie cutters\, lace etc.\, to create a personalized planter. \nThe second day of this course will take place two weeks later to allow drying and bisque fired prior to glazing. As a member of the Jacksonville Watercolor Society\, Roseann has won many awards. \nRoseann was most recently the Artist in Residence for the Arts in Medicine Program at U F Health (Shands) Hospital in Jacksonville. Previously Roseann was the Art Teacher for grades K-12 at Mainspring Academy\, and Collage School in Ponte Vedra\, both schools for students with autism and special needs. She also teaches watercolor through community education at Fletcher High School. Her work has appeared on the cover of New Smyrna Magazine. She has been designing and creating hand made jewelry for over twenty years. Throughout this time\, she has been selected to several juried shows and is an active member of numerous artist cooperatives. \nJana’s versatility is reflected in a variety of techniques and methods used in her jewelry making process. These include lost wax casting\, soldering\, precious metal clay\, chain mail\, and wire wrapping/weaving. Though sterling and fine silver are Jana’s primary metals of choice\, she also works with cooper and gold. Gemstones and glass cabochons are often featured in many of her pieces. \nJana’s extensive teaching experiences includes serving as a music department instructor at universities\, as well as teaching jewelry at artist cooperatives and charitable organizations prior to arriving in Jacksonville\, FL in 2017. SUMMARY:2-Day Pottery Workshop: Mermaid (Day 1)
DESCRIPTION:Join Gloria at ABAM for a 2-day pottery workshop on Thursday\, 3/14 and Thursday\, 3/28 to make a mermaid!\n\n\nStudents will develop a basic foundation in ceramic arts geared towards beginner through advanced skill level. Students can anticipate this course to be an introduction to the medium and guidance to create a finished product. \nThis workshop occurs on two days\, two weeks apart: \n\nThursday\, 3/14 from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm and\nThursday\, 3/28 from 2:30pm-4:30 pm\n\nDay 1 of this course will cover a basic introduction to slab building to construct a slab hand built mermaid\, using a mid-fire clay body (firing to cone 5-6). Students will be able add Decorative techniques using stamps\, cookie cutters\, and texture lace will be provided to use in the design. Students may also bring their own decorative tools\, including but not limited to cookie cutters\, lace etc.\, to create a mermaid. \nThe second day of this course will take place two weeks later to allow drying and bisque fired prior to glazing. Her previous career was as an art director in New York City. She has been working in watercolors for years. As a member of the Jacksonville Watercolor Society\, Roseann has won many awards. \nRoseann was most recently the Artist in Residence for the Arts in Medicine Program at U F Health (Shands) Hospital in Jacksonville. Previously Roseann was the Art Teacher for grades K-12 at Mainspring Academy\, and Collage School in Ponte Vedra\, both schools for students with autism and special needs. She also teaches watercolor through community education at Fletcher High School. Roseann has also demonstrated at the Cummer Museum in Jacksonville\, and has been a recipient of the Jacksonville Community Foundation Grant for Individual Artists. Her work has appeared on the cover of New Smyrna Magazine. SUMMARY:Wired Up for Ammonites Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Jana Song Bobo at ABAM for an ammonite wire-wrapping workshop on Saturday\, 3/2! \nIn this “make-and-take” class\, participants wii learn wire wrapping techniques to create a setting for an Ammonite and various ways to add decorative accents\, including wire weaving.\nOnce finished\, it can be strung on a chain or a cord to wear as a pendant or any other purposes. \nAmmonite is possibly the most widely known and available fossil which can be obtained in the whole as well as sliced in half. When sliced in half\, it reveals ribbed spiral forms resembling patterns found on a nautilus shell. \nThrough the process of completing the project\, participants will learn the names and use of basic hand tools\, wire manipulation\, techniques of wire wrapping\, wire weaving along with other ways to add eye-appealing embellishments.\nThe instructor’s brief illustration and demonstration of basics will be followed by hands on individual participation with ample supervision and assistance. \nThis class is suitable for people with no experience as well as experienced makers. \nAll materials will be provided and sets of hand tools will be available for use in the class. \nTickets are $65 per person. \nClick here to purchase tickets \nInstructor: Jana Song Bobo \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJana Song Bobo is a classically trained pianist who has had a life-long love of unique jewelry. She has been designing and creating hand made jewelry for over twenty years. Throughout this time\, she has been selected to several juried shows and is an active member of numerous artist cooperatives. \nJana’s versatility is reflected in a variety of techniques and methods used in her jewelry making process. These include lost wax casting\, soldering\, precious metal clay\, chain mail\, and wire wrapping/weaving. Though sterling and fine silver are Jana’s primary metals of choice\, she also works with cooper and gold. Gemstones and glass cabochons are often featured in many of her pieces. \nJana’s extensive teaching experiences includes serving as a music department instructor at universities\, as well as teaching jewelry at artist cooperatives and charitable organizations prior to arriving in Jacksonville\, FL in 2017.
