2-Day Pottery Workshop: Ceramic Christmas Tree Lanterns – DAY ONE

This is a 2-day workshop, two weeks apart:

• 2:00 pm -4:00 pm, Thursday, October 27th and Thursday, November 10th

Students will develop a basic foundation in ceramic arts geared towards beginners. Those with an intermediate skill level are welcome as well, but should anticipate this course to be an introduction to the medium.

Day 1 of this course (Thursday, October 27th) will cover a basic introduction to slab building to construct a cone-shaped tree, using a mid-fire clay body (firing to cone 5-6). Students will add decorations and texture, then finish their trees off with shape cutters so that a tea light or candle will shine through. Decorative techniques using stamps, cookie cutters, and texture lace will be provided to use in the design. Students may bring their own decorative tools, including but not limited to cookie cutters, to create personalized Christmas trees!

The second day of this course will take place over a week later on Thursday, November 10th, as the pieces will need to slowly dry, and be bisque fired prior to glazing. During the second day, the student will glaze their piece using premixed coyote, amaco or mayco glazes supplied by Gloria.

The pieces will then be kiln fired by the instructor and then the students will be called once the pieces are available to pick up at the store, within 1-2 weeks after glazing (the second day).
