“Tree of Life” on a Rock Workshop

In this “Make and Take” class participants will create a Tree of Life on top of a colored cabochon. Once finished this piece can be hung on a cord or a chain to be worn as a pendant on be used as a decorative piece.

Through the process of completing the project everyone will learn:

• the use of basic hand tools
• wire manipulation and twisting techniques
• designing and executing a completed wire Tree of Life

The following specific skills will be covered to achieve the goal:

• build a wire frame for the cabochon
• attach thin gauge wires to this frame
• twist these wires in desired number of bundles
• bring these bundles to the surface of the cabochon to start shaping the tree attach individual wires to the frame
• make bale to the top
• manipulate the tree branches to give more realistic appearance

Brief illustrations and demonstrations will be followed by individual hands on participation with ample supervision and assistance.

All materials will be provided along with sets of hand tools for use in the class.
